Kristin Soni is a Los Angeles native, singer-songwriter and parent of two boys who loves to share and inspire people to connect more deeply through music. As a preschool music teacher and performer she
Her first album, "We Love," was released in May 2017 and is delighting families worldwide. In July 2017 "We Love" was featured in Red Tricycle online magazine's The Best Kids Tunes for an Awesome LA Summer. Then in November, Kristin was interviewed for episode 15 of We're Doin' It: The Adam & Michael Podcast.
Kristin has had many diverse musical experiences. She sang backup and played percussion in The Roundabouts, a ska band led by her brother Michael Firestone (who would later teach her the 3 chords she needed to begin accompanying herself on ukulele). She recorded and performed with numerous Christian artists at conventions and conferences throughout Southern California, singing everything from hip hop to chant. She has performed for weddings and funerals, sung about the weather on a TV news network, and auditioned for both The Voice & American Idol. She sang, danced and played in an African Drum Ensemble. She has sung in Spanish, Latin, Italian, German, French, Swahili. She even once performed at the Hollywood Bowl ...she's had a lot of musical fun so far!
Born in Burbank and raised in West Hills, Kristin has always made music. As a child, she wrote songs using her Casio keyboard, recorded herself singing on her dual deck cassette "boom box," and put on shows for her family using the fireplace mantle as her stage (a total '80s kid!). She participated in a community theater group from the tender age of 5 and performed lead roles in everything from Annie to The Mikado. As a middle schooler she participated in drama and orchestra where she played the flute (all the way into college, in fact). Her high school's award-winning Marching Band kept her busy, but she always found time for Spring musicals, choral performances & concert solos. Kristin also devoted much of her extracurricular time to music ministry in her church where she also served as a peer counselor in her youth group.
In college at Loyola Marymount University, Kristin continued her dedication to music and spirituality, singing in both the community and advanced choral ensembles, as well as the Sinatra Opera Workshop, while completing her BA in Sociology and minoring in Theological Studies. She was very active in Campus Ministry, a passion that would lead her to her first career as a youth minister - first as Director of Youth Ministry at St. Bernardine of Siena Church in Woodland Hills, and later to Chaminade College Preparatory High School in West Hills where she would serve as Director of Campus Ministry & religious studies teacher, as well as direct the worship band and choir. She would later go on to serve a year in a similar role at St. Bernard High School in Playa Del Rey. Throughout her years serving high school youth, she wove in work with preschoolers and kindergarteners as a teacher's aide. She found much joy in the big hearts and personalities of these youngest students; playing and singing with them always stretched her imagination, preparing her for one day having children of her own.
In 2010, Kristin earned her MA in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. This unique master's program was an enlightening and heart-opening experience which concluded in a self-produced breakout concert, "Dreams & Visions." Two days after her concert, Kristin decided to leave her school ministry work to pursue a freelance music/ministry career of her own making. The next few years would be pivotal and transformative, full of introspection and deep searching. At Mount St. Mary's College where she served as a residential minister, Kristin found herself devoting much of her time to her own musical compositions, writing, blogging and praying about what was to come next. She knew she wanted marriage and children, and a career in music, but was unsure of just how those goals would unfold.
Kristin got married in 2013 and in 2014 gave birth to their first son, Henry. As a stay-at-home parent, she spent long days home with her baby, writing songs, singing, playing and enjoying motherhood. She joined a local moms' meetup and would play her songs for her newfound friends and their babies at playgroup gatherings. It was here that the buds of her new career would begin to bloom - the perfect blending of her lifelong talents and long-awaited role as a mother.
In 2016, while pregnant with her second son Julian, Kristin decided it was time to record the children's songs she had written. She teamed up with the brother-in-law of a childhood friend, L.A. producer Joel Henry Stein, and recorded "We Love," her first CD. Throughout production, Kristin shared her songs at mommy-and-me music gatherings at her home with her MOMS Club friends and their little ones. The encouragement of her husband and of her mom friends was instrumental in giving her the confidence she needed to make the recording possible.
Today, Kristin is co-parenting her sons in Canoga Park, CA. She teaches K-8 music at a grade school in Glendale and preschool music in Woodland Hills. Kristin looks forward with great anticipation to what else the future might hold for her musical career.
